Our Journey

In September 2015 we attended the Moors and Christians festival in L’Atzubia, Costa Blanca. The village was 3 km from our holiday home in Pego and is situated at the foothills of the La Vall de Gallinera mountains.

We were fortunate to be invited to a table hosted by the lovely Rita, who made a spectacular Paella with Chorizo, juicy prawns, proper chicken breast- all very moist and flavoursome. We were told it was a competition and this would be judged later. The Town Hall laid on free wine and beer for a couple of hours. The Party got into full swing with the help of the local Samba Band from Ondara and the Valencia pyrotechnics called mascaletas – which are more about noise than display - good job our dog, Lola, is gun dog trained!.

We happened to mention to our fellow diners we would love a home in L’Atzubia and suddenly we were surrounded by several people wishing to sell us their properties! We met a fantastic couple at the paella festival and we fell in love with their home in L’Atzubia.

It also turned out our sellers decided our holiday home in Pego was perfect for them too, as they wanted to downsize.

A perfect storm but a year too early or so we thought!

……. May 2016 - The life defining moment was the ‘break the ice’ call with my new Chief of Staff boss who proceeded to tell me she was extensively published, having climbed to the summit of 3 mountains, and was also a qualified life coach. – at the age of just 27. Her monologue continued for 25 minutes of our 30 minute ‘time boxed’ teleconference. After she drew breath, she asked about me, to which I replied, in my best Yorkshire  accent...

I climb a mountain every day ‘love’ ...

  • Getting my 8 year old son up, dressed, teeth brushed... (I have outsourced feeding him to the school’s breakfast club). I run him into the club at 7.27 am and wait outside the door with 10 other rush hour commuting guilt-ridden parents, all so I can get a parking space at work that enables me to leave at 5.15 pm - for my hour’s drive back to collect Jack from the after school club, desperately trying to avoid getting fined for late collection... They will bin us if it happens 3 times!

  • Attend to the ever overflowing laundry basket.

  • Empty the sock eating Dryer and later find a statically charged pair of superhero underpants stuck to my skirt just as I am trying to leave the house.

  • Walk Lola the puppy dog, whose favourite chew toy is the skirting board and her plush 'mortgaged' doggy bed. But she’s so beautiful. My husband loves her so much, I am coming back as a Lola puppy dog in my next life.

  • Call my 90 year old Nanna. A  graduate alumni of the School of Hard Knocks, she worries for England and loves her soap operas. She gives me her weekly shopping list of mushy peas, processed peas, garden peas, condensed milk, a sausage & mash readymeal, chicken ‘teka’, ‘them pink things I like’, a 'pissa' ...oh and a "lesagni" - She’d discovered Italian food on a bus trip to Lido de Jeselo in the 80’s.

  • Chuck something remotely healthy into the slow cooker for it to resemble a congealed brown sludge when I get round to serving it up 14 hours later.

  • Arrange Sunday lunch with our 3 older grown up kids. At dinner I know they will all be on their mobile phones and Jack will be hyperactive on the luminous sweets that one of the older kids will have slipped him.

So, after working for 30 plus years in IT - ending my career as a very “important” Programme Manager who was losing her mind... I decided to move to Spain. If I didn’t do it now, I was going to play out a chapter in my life that I didn’t choose to write.

Our UK home sold in a matter of weeks. Four weeks later we had packed up the house,  the holiday apartment and relocated to Spain with our youngest son and Lola Doggy.

We took 18 months to renovate our own villa and have learnt a great deal through the process. We have also renovated several other properties and have numerous years experience of renting our own properties in Spain and the  UK.

We would now like the opportunity to help you manage your property rental or holiday home.
